New Segment - Famous Beards!

Welcome to the first installment of Famous Beards! We will begin with the obvious. This painting of Jesus Christ at the Galilee Petting Zoo illustrates the power and majesty of Christ's most under-appreciated miracle, the beard. While the beard sports no outlandish or exotic features, Christ keeps things trim and tight, exuding an aura of godly power but with a certain delicate sensitivity.

As my facial hair gets longer, so does my percieved age. I also noticed that my basketball opponents were particularly intimated earlier today at the gym.

Maybe Samson was just like a beastly looking basketballer.

I can report that last weekend my beard helped me stay warm on the appalacian trail. What can't beards do!

Grow a beard!

Alright everyone,

The Beard-A-Thon is off to a less-than-rousing start, most likely because I procrasinated drawing up the rules, giving those involved a minimal amount of time to spread the word. Therefore, I am proposing we drop the start date (November 3rd) and open this event to anyone at any time up until January 23rd. After all, its not a contest. Post before and after pictures, comments, stories, and other beard related things.

The Nitty Gritty


Starts: Monday, November 3rd (all participants must be clean-shaven no earlier than 5:00 the evening of Sunday, November 2nd).

Deadline for The Opening Shave is 12 noon on Monday the 3rd.

Trimming of the beard is at the discretion of the participant. We at the 2008 Winter Beard-A-Thon understand the need for employed participants to maintain a professional appearance. However, any trimming of length is strongly discouraged.

The Winter Beard-A-Thon will end on January 23rd, 2009

For one week following the end of the Beard-A-Thon (starting January 26th), we invite all participants to get creative and showcase their trimming abilities by adopting a facial hairstyle of their choice (i.e. mustache, goatee, period beard, etc.)

Throughout the course of the Beard-A-Thon, all participants are encouraged to use the official site www.beardathon08.blogspot.com to track their progress and share beard stories with their friends.

Please note: The Winter Beard-A-Thon is NOT a competition and no prizes will be awarded – the beard is your prize. Wear it with pride.

The ability to grow facial hair is a gift that should never be taken for granted. Sadly, some choose to suppress that gift. They claim, “it’s too itchy…” or “it’s too much work to maintain…”. Pish-posh! This is a chance to stick it out. Band together! Encourage one another! BE A MAN.
